An Extraordinary Event to attend as a GCSE Student!

YFME - Young Furniture Makers Exhibition

This is the first time that i have been able to attend and exhibit a piece of work that i have designed and manufactured myself, with an amazing opportunity to meet other starting designers and their products showing a wide variation within the design show, showcasing many different categories of furniture that focus on the specific areas of the design world.

An event that allowed a wider perspective for my design knowledge and allowing me to connect with industry professionals along with fellow young designers.

The School Design Award

When attending the exhibition, I was awarded the "School Design Award" from the Young Furniture Makers Company, which was an privilege to be given the award. Part of the award was to be an exhibitor at the Young Furniture Makers Exhibition of 2017. When exhibiting, there was a chance to meet the masters of the charity which was an honour to speak to them, even one of the masters said "Designer and Maker?", "You made this design", which resulting in myself knowing i was the only school/college student that fully made their exhibiting product.

The Exhibition

The Exhibition itself, saw schools, sixth-forms, colleges and universities' (undergraduate and postgraduate) all showcasing their work, it was definitely an eye opener to the full potential to create a range of different pieces of furniture. Highly recommend attending the Young Furniture Makers Exhibition, when it comes around once a year, with only a select amount of students to exhibit.
